Be Air Aware - what impact does air pollution have?
Air pollution can have a serious effect on people’s health, causing irritation of the airways and breathing problems. It makes life difficult for people who already have lung or heart problems, such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and it particularly affects children and the elderly. Air pollution also damages vegetation and eco-systems, and contributes towards climate change.
There are many factors contributing towards poor air quality, ranging from factory emissons, household emissions and road transport. Be Air Aware is focussing on the transport element, by showing people how to make more eco-friendly travel choices, that will also improve your health (and in some cases even your finances!) We are also working closely with schools to fund initiatives to put air quality on the curriculum and making sustainable travel more fun.
