Trading Standards Blind Safety campaign
In a bid to protect young children from being strangled to death by the cords on window blinds, the safety standard governing the types of blind cords was improved in 2009.
The new standards ensure a safer design and manufacture whilst also highlighting warnings and the safety devices that can be used to reduce possible dangers. However, there is a risk that older products within households could still present a danger to children and Trading Standards urge parents to follow a number of simple safety guidelines. Bus Network Consultation
Nexus begins its consultation with residents into local bus links on 15 March 2010, and you can give your views and suggestions between that date and 4 June. Residents will be asked to give their views on a major review of bus services in Newcastle aimed at improving local and socially-important links – about 10% of the whole network, which Nexus pays for using funding including from the Council.
There will be drop-in roadshows to give residents the chance to see and comment on the Nexus plans, and talk to the people who drew them up, before any final decisions are made.
Details of these events are on the Nexus website at www.nexus.org.uk/busstrategy. The link to the consultation will be available here from 15 March.
Park Right First Time campaign
Careless parking represents a serious hazard to pedestrians, especially those using wheelchairs for mobility purposes or those suffering from a visual impairment. It is also an inconvenience for people with pushchairs and buggies who cannot squeeze through small gaps. For more information and to view our TV advert visit our Park Right First Time webpage.
