John Collings - Acting Director of Children's Services

Transferring on to middle, secondary or high school is a very exciting part of every child’s life and an important step towards becoming a responsible adult.  Newcastle schools have very high standards with dedicated staff committed to helping your child to achieve to the best of their ability.  We have some of the best equipped, most modern schools in the country.  Our schools work with each other and in exciting partnerships with local business, Universities and Newcastle College.  Personalised learning means the establishment of challenging targets for every student to enable them to reach their full potential.

Newcastle City Council co-ordinates the school admissions process for Newcastle residents.  Each school produces its own prospectus and has a website containing information about the school.  We advise you to look at these, talk to your child and take the opportunity to visit our schools and speak to the staff.  Please read the information online before you make your decision.

Think about how your child will travel to school.  We would encourage your child to walk or travel on public transport to encourage their independence, enable them to keep fit and to meet new friends.

We can provide support to guide you through the admissions process, both at the application stage and when you receive the offer of a school place. It is important to submit your application by the closing date on 31 October 2010.

You can apply for a school place online. We will be pleased to help you with any questions you may have regarding your application. Offers of school places will be made on 1 March 2011.

I wish your child every success as he or she enters the next stage of their education at middle, secondary or high school.
